Eden Camp Trip 2018

Published by Alison Watson-Shields on

On Thursday 21st June 2018, Hand In Hand Activities CIC took a mixed group of 31 service users to Eden Camp for the day. Members of Young At Heart ULO, In Our Shoes Carers Support Group, the REACH Project and Golden Zumba boarded the coach provided by M&D Travel for a magical mystery tour along some very bumpy farm tracks to the museum in Malton, North Yorkshire.

Upon arrival at the World War 2 Prison of War camp, the group split up to make their way around the 29 huts, full of war memorabilia and multi-sensory experiences dating back to World War 1, at their own pace. Some group members headed straight for Hut 1, while others made their way to the Cafe before beginning their exploration.

For some of the group, it was an opportunity to reminisce on their own personal and familial experiences during World War 2, while for others it was a real awakening to some of the experiences of both soldiers serving on the front line and the families at home.

Following lunch, most of the group took the opportunity to enjoy the entertainment in the Music Hall which consisted of a puppet performance of popular songs from the era.  You can see an example of the show in the video below.

Our next trip will be an afternoon tea cruise on board the Teesside Princess on Thursday 26th July. Find out more on our Facebook page.
