Shildon Locomotion Museum Trip 2018
On Thursday 30th August 2018, a group of over 20 members of the Young At Heart ULO and In Our Shoes Carers Support Group visited Shildon’s Locomotion Museum.
We arrived at our destination around 10:30am and promptly found our way to the cafe for a refreshing hot cup of tea and slice of cake, for some! After which, our group was split into two separate groups in order to take part in a guided tour of the Museum and benefit from seeing inside some of the trains that are usually kept locked!
We would highly recommend taking part in the guided tour, particularly if you’re not very knowledgable about trains as you learn so much and gain a greater understanding of the machines, how they work and where they have worked.
Following the tour, the group all gathered in the cafe to enjoy lunch. The pastries come highly recommended from the group but they weren’t fans of the chips! Lunch gave me a great opportunity to socialise with the group members informally, in that I wasn’t there to deliver a specific service, so I had a wonderful chat with quite a lot of people who attended.
After lunch, we met in front of what I can only refer to as the Hogwarts train, which is funny because I have never read or seen Harry Potter! We took a photograph of the group together and the group decided they were ready to go home.
Even though the day ended 90 minutes earlier than planned, everyone seemed to have enjoyed their day out and I am looking forward to our next adventure!
I would like to thank everyone who attended the trip, the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Museum who took care of us and, last but not least, Delta Coaches for a smooth and uneventful bus journey.
For our next trip, we will be visiting The Danger Tree exhibition in Stockton, which is a commemorative exhibition to mark 100 years since the end of World War One. This private visit is taking place on Thursday 27th September at 1pm.
