This week was very eventful here at the Young At Heart ULO activities.

Monday morning was very busy, with lots to discuss and lots to take in so our activity was kept simple, short and sweet; we spent some time writing short stories where you all take it in turns to add a sentence.

At the Young Onset group on Monday afternoon, we had a visit from a furry guest – one of our group members brought her pet Chihuahua to be our new group mascot. The cute dog was cuddled and petted by everyone while we discussed a whole range of topics, including how manners have changed over the years. We also did some work on alliteration:

For example, Debbie is holding a desk, Pam is holding a poodle and Alison is holding an air horn.

In Billingham, the group focussed on the forthcoming Valentines Day by completing an A-Z of all things Valentines related. We tried to come up with at least 5 words for each letter of the alphabet and then use the words to make a sentence. We managed to complete the whole alphabet – it was great fun!

On Tuesday afternoon, the group in Thornaby had a fun afternoon with the parachute, but not before they tasted the pudding recipe they had made up last week – the Tutti Fruity Gut Buster also known as a fruit cocktail brownie.

On Thursday, the group at Eaglescliffe were also feeling the love with the Valetine’s themed activities. Not only did the group complete an A-Z of Valentine’s Day-related words but they also did an A-Z of foods and used those suggestions to come up with their very own Valentine’s Day menu… Safe to say that the group have an interesting taste palette!

On Friday, we had our monthly Service Veterans group, where we were also joined by representatives of the Durham Branch of SSAFA and the Mayor of Stockton on Tees for our Burns Supper event. The group watched the piping in of the haggis complete with bagpipes before enjoying the haggis, neeps and tatties. The morning was enjoyed by all and we received some great feedback from our members. Keep an eye on our Facebook Page for videos from this special event.

Next week we have our fabulous Magic Moments Coffee Morning, where we will be continuing with our theme of Valentine’s Day.
