Caitlin Black Performs at Musical Memories Singing Circle

Published by Alison Watson-Shields on

Our Musical Memories Singing Circle hopes to bring together people living with dementia (or memory problems) and their care partners in a relaxed and supportive environment to enjoy listening to and singing along with live music.

On Wednesday 2nd and Wednesday 16th February, care home and club singer Caitlin Black came along to Grays Road Institute to entertain, joke, share stories and lead singalongs for our Singing Circle – in person and online.

Caitlin has previously performed for members of our group at our Magic Moments Coffee Morning which, prior to COVID-19, took place at St Cuthbert’s Church Hall in Billingham. Caitlin was invited along to perform at our ‘Summer Holiday’ themed event. No prizes for guessing what the opening song was!

Caitlin sings along to a vast array of hits from the 1950s, 60s and 70s and, while at our sessions, spoke with the group members to see if there were any songs that were important to them… and she was able to sing each and every one of them!

Caitlin’s booming voice and larger than life character provides lots of fun and laughter for all, although, please be careful or she may make a bet with you which could see you flashing your bum in a shop window! Just kidding….

We are really looking forward to working with Caitlin in the future as we plan and develop activities now that we are trying to get back to ‘normal’. In the meantime, you can enjoy recordings of both of her performances below. Watch out for her rendition of Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ as it is enough to bring a lump to your throat!
